Clarity sought on future of Lanark Post Office

Clydesdale Constituency MSP Aileen Campbell will be writing to Post Office Ltd, seeking clarity on recent press reports that the premises housing Lanark’s one surviving Post Office has been put up for sale.

Aileen said:

“I am concerned at this report and will be looking for assurances from The Post Office that this crucial resource will remain available to the people of Lanark.

“I understand that the current owners of the premises in St Leonard Street have increased the retail side of the business and the selling agents have indicated that there is an opportunity to increase this side of the business, for the new owners.

“The Post Office plays a crucial role in supporting local communities, in particular vulnerable residents. It also performs an equally important role in supporting small businesses and anchoring local economies.

“The Burgh lost its two other sub-Post Offices in Westport and New Lanark four years ago due to the policies of the previous Labour government. It is vital that Lanark retains a Post Office.”
