Seeking Better Transport Links For Clydesdale

Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell seized the opportunity to make the case for improved transport links throughout her constituency when she met with representatives from Network Rail and the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) in parliament this week.

Aileen spoke to Network Rail Route Managing Director, David Simpson and described to him Clydesdale’s need for improved rail services and to discuss the opportunities the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) presents to the area.

She also spoke with CPT representatives about the potential Clydesdale’s towns have to become what CPT term ‘coach friendly’.  This status could promote Clydesdale as a coach tour destination and significantly boost tourism for the area.  The status also brings real economic benefits, which many towns across the UK already enjoy.

Commenting from parliament, Aileen Campbell said:

“Transport is a key priority for me as the constituency MSP and is an important issue for my constituents.  That is why I took the opportunity to discuss practical solutions to help improve bus and rail links across Clydesdale.

“My discussions with Network Rail and CPT were extremely positive and I welcome their commitment to help me in my efforts towards improving Clydesdale’s transport links.

“EPIG could make a huge difference to Clydesdale’s rail services and I welcome the commitment from Mr Simpson to work with me to explore all possible avenues for improving rail services.

“Network Rail also pledged to hold awareness days in Clydesdale to allow my constituents the opportunity to receive more information on EGIP and to have their say.

“CPT also recognised Clydesdale’s potential - I see real benefits in helping Clydedale’s towns get ‘coach-friendly’ status as a technique to attract more coach tours to the area and to attract more visitors to our beautiful part of Scotland.”
