West Linton and District Rotary Club Award for Coulter Resident
S3M-06869 Aileen Campbell (South of Scotland) (Scottish National Party): West Linton and District Rotary Club Award for Coulter Resident— That the Parliament congratulates Gillian McCamon, of Coulter, South Lanarkshire, on receiving the Ian Miller Award from members of the West Linton and District Rotary Club; notes that the award is made annually by the members of the club to someone who has contributed significantly to the local community of West Linton; further notes that, in Gillian’s case, this was for her work in caring for older citizens in the area, and that her work was described by the club as considerably exceeding what would normally be expected for this work, and welcomes the role played by rotary clubs across Scotland in recognising the contribution of individual citizens to the life of their communities.
 
One Year to Go to the 2011 Lanarkshire Children's Games
S3M-06787 Aileen Campbell (South of Scotland) (Scottish National Party): One Year to Go to the 2011 Lanarkshire Children's Games— That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the one-year countdown to the 2011 Lanarkshire Children’s Games and the series of events taking place to mark this occasion; notes that the games will take place between 3 and 7 August 2011 in a range of venues in North and South Lanarkshire, with support from both local authorities and the Scottish Government; looks forward to the expected 1,500 competitors aged 12 to 15 and their supporters from more than 70 countries arriving in Lanarkshire for the event, which is recognised by the International Olympic Committee, and wishes all those involved in the final year of preparations every success.
 
First Female SAYC Stockman of the Year
S3M-06779 Aileen Campbell (South of Scotland) (Scottish National Party): First Female SAYFC Stockman of the Year— That the Parliament congratulates Ann Laird of West Linton on winning the Scottish Association of Young Farmers (SAYFC) Stockman of the Year at the 2010 Highland Show; recognises her achievement of being the first female to win the competition and first member of the Lanarkshire team to win the prize in four years; hopes that it is the first of many wins for her, and encourages more women to take part in stock judging.
 
Powering to the Future with Friends of Volunteering Clydesdale
S3M-06756 Aileen Campbell (South of Scotland) (Scottish National Party): Powering to the Future with Friends of Volunteering Clydesdale— That the Parliament welcomes the initiative of Friends of Volunteering Clydesdale to break the world record for generating electricity from bicycles; notes that the event will take place between 5pm on Friday 27 August and 5pm on Saturday 28 August 2010 at the Coalburn One Stop Shop, with participants invited to spend at least one minute pedalling a bicycle to generate electricity; understands that the effort requires at least 1,000 participants to stand a chance of beating the existing record of 12,953 watts and that the event forms part of a Sustainable Saturday family day that will promote a range of eco-friendly and sustainable activities and demonstrations, and encourages any individual, group, club or society with an interest to consider taking part in this event.
 
Callum and Gillian's Great Big Walk

S3M-06725 Aileen Campbell (South of Scotland) (Scottish National Party): Callum and Gillian's Great Big Walk— That the Parliament welcomes Callum and Gillian’s Great Big Walk, a fantastic event taking place throughout August with the aim of raising money and awareness for Capability Scotland; notes that musicians Callum Dewar and Gillian Maitland will walk from John o’ Groats to Gretna and give a series of concerts and master classes; further notes that the concerts will include world premieres of works by a number of renowned Scottish composers specially written for the event; recognises that the event was inspired by Gillian’s struggle with a hidden disability; congratulates Callum and Gillian on their initiative, and encourages people to get involved by sponsoring the walk or attending the concerts.
