Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has welcomed news that local organisation, Sportworx, has made it through to the final of Best Sports Project category in the UK National Lottery Awards. The organisation, which has run events at Lesmahagow High, Larkhall UC and Carluke leisure centre, provides young people with the opportunities and skills to become sports coaches. The Awards aim to recognise the difference that lottery-funded projects have made to people, places and communities across the country and celebrate the talent, hard work and dedication of the people involved in running them. Voting will be open on http://www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards/index.cfm from 26th July and run until 13th August. The finalists will be featured on a Special BBC 1 programme on 4th September. Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said: “I’m delighted that an organisation from the South of Scotland made it through to the finals. “The group has already done some great work with Lesmahagow High and Larkhall UC and I’m happy to see their efforts being recognised. “I would encourage everyone in the Clydesdale area to take a moment to show their support for the work of Sportworx and vote before the 13th August.”
