Campbell Welcomes NHS Good News: Dental Registrations Up and Waiting Lists at All-Time Low

Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has welcomed the news that the NHS in Scotland is meeting and beating a range of key targets – including the lowest ever waiting-times for treatment.  99.5 per cent of patients referred for inpatient and day case treatment are now waiting less than nine weeks, while 99.9 per cent of all patients in Scotland were waiting less than 12 weeks for new outpatient appointments.

Figures published by the Scottish Government also show that dental registrations continue to increase, with 76% of people in NHS Lanarkshire registered with an NHS Dentist in December 2009 – up from 69.8% last year and only 54.8% in March 2007, before the SNP Government was elected.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said:

“This is excellent news and will confirm what many people in the Clydesdale area are experiencing on a daily basis – shorter waiting times for hospital appointments and faster access to treatment than ever before.

“It is also hugely encouraging to see a dramatic rise in dental registrations in the NHS Lanarkshire area.

“The figures show that the SNP Government’s record investment in the Health Service is having very positive effects.  It also shows why it is so important we equip our Scottish Parliament with the full powers we need to maintain and grow the public services that so many people in Scotland rely upon.”
