Boiler Scrappage Scheme Will Benefit Clydesdale Residents, Says Campbell

Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has encouraged residents in the Clydesdale area to find out if they are eligible to benefit from the Scottish Government’s Boiler Scrappage Scheme.

The scheme, which is launched today [Monday 24th May], will allow up to 5,000 households with inefficient boilers in Scotland to claim £400 off the cost of a new boiler.  A total of £2million is being made available by the Scottish Government for the scheme, which will improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and household fuel bills. Installing a greener boiler will help slash average household heating costs by a quarter, around £235 a year for a three bed semi-detached house.

The Energy Saving Scotland advice network will tomorrow begin issuing £400 vouchers towards installation of a certified energy saving boiler. The scheme will operate on a first come, first served basis.  More information is available by calling 0800 512 012 or visit http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/scottishboilerscrappagescheme

Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said:

“The boiler scrappage scheme will be warmly welcomed by anyone with an old, inefficient and costly boiler.

“The SNP Government’s £2million investment in this scheme – which Labour voted against in the Scottish Budget earlier this year -  will offset the cost of a new energy saving boiler for up to 5,000 households.  It will help people to live in greener homes which cost less to run, and provide a stimulus for the heating industry, supporting jobs at this crucial time.

“I would encourage anyone in the Clydesdale area who thinks they may qualify to call the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012 for advice and more information.  The scheme is being run on a first-come-first-served basis, so it’s worth moving quickly.”
