Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has encouraged residents across the South of Scotland at risk of flooding or affected by flooding to remain vigilant and follow advice issued by the relevant authorities. Her comments come after severe rains caused flood alerts and warnings across Scotland. The Scottish Environmental Protection agency (SEPA) issued a Flood Warning for the River Clyde and tributaries upstream of Bothwell at 9:56 am on Friday 20th November, and reports indicate that the river had burst its banks at Rosebank on the A72, where the road has been closed. Crossford and Carmyle were also described as ‘at risk of flooding’ [1]. Other parts of the South of Scotland region were also severely hit by flooding, including Dumfries and Galloway which experienced its wettest day on record. A statement from the Scottish Government said that its Resilience Room will is monitoring the situation across the country and will keep in close contact with local authorities, emergency services, SEPA, the Met Office and Transport Scotland [2]. Advice and support about what to do, before, during and after a flood available from the Floodline service on 0845 988 1188 [3]. Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said: “Many people and travellers in the the South of Scotland will have been affected by the floods, and my thoughts are with them at this time. “Anyone who may be affected by the floods should listen for the latest advice and updates on the television and radio, and the Floodline service can also provide information about what to do before, during and after a flood by calling 0845 988 1188. “My office has spoken to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency today and we’ve asked to be kept informed of any further developments including the impact of flooding on the Clyde river where it passes through the South of Scotland region which I represent.” [1] The flood warning page can be found at: [2] Statement from the Scottish Government can be found at: [3] Information about the floodline service can be found at:
