Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has welcomed the news that Lockhart Hospital in Lanark is one of the four NHS Lanarkshire hospitals to receive recognition for its volunteering work from the prestigious accreditation mark for excellence in volunteering - Investing in Volunteers (IiV) UK award. To obtain the award, representatives from Volunteer Development Scotland visited the various hospitals in NHS Lanarkshire over an eight day period and met with both staff and some of their 400 volunteers. They received very positive feedback from the volunteers about their training and experiences, NHS staff also showed how NHS Lanarkshire excelled in many areas, including having proper procedures in place to support their many volunteer programs such as volunteer visitor, mealtime volunteer and chaplaincy volunteer. Commenting on the award, Aileen Campbell MSP said: “It is great news that Lanark’s Lockhart Hospital has been recognised for its excellent visitor volunteer program. It highlights the willingness of people in this area to give up their free time to support others in need, and shows that they are receiving the right support and training from NHS Lanarkshire. “There are many volunteer programs in NHS Lanarkshire and they cater for a variety of needs. I encourage anyone who is interested to contact them on 01236 707 796 and see what you can do to help.”
