South of Scotland Carers Will Benefit from Share of £9m Funding, Says Campbell

Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland has welcomed the announcement by the Scottish Government that the implementation of Carer Information Strategies will receive an extra £9 million funding over the next three years.  The share allocated to NHS Lanarkshire will be £970,000, while NHS Ayrshire & Arran will receive £539,000.

The announcement, by Public Health Minister Shona Robison, will ensure that carers benefit from greater awareness and recognition of their role, improved provision of information and available support, with more access to training to help them cope with their caring role.  NHS staff will also be given training on how to identify unpaid carers and signpost them to local sources of support, and working closely with carers as key partners in the delivery of care.

Aileen Campbell said:

"People with caring responsibilities in the South of Scotland will all benefit from this extra funding.

"Carers across the area give of their time to look after their loved ones.  They need and deserve to be offered the right kind of information, training and ongoing support.

"I am delighted that the Scottish Government has made these additional funds available for the NHS."
