| South of Scotland Communities Could be Village of the Year, says Campbell |
|
Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland has encouraged villages in the South of Scotland to take part in the Scottish Calor Village of the Year Awards. The scheme is sponsored by Calor Gas in association with the Association of Scottish Community Councils (ASCC) and Rural Gateway. The Awards will be launched at a reception in the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 20th February 2008. The award is being introduced to allow Scotland's rural communities to celebrate success and share their ideas. Every village or rural community in Scotland with a population of up to 5,000 is encouraged to enter. Details of how to participate can be found at the award's website Aileen Campbell said: "This is a very welcome initiative which will recognise the importance of our small and rural communities. "I am privileged to represent a large number of villages across the South of Scotland. While each has something unique and special about it, these awards will be looking for communities that in some way go the extra mile. "I encourage all the villages of the South of Scotland to participate in the awards. Although there can only be one winner, every community can benefit by getting together and looking at how they meet the different criteria."
